WHAT IS A CONTACT LENS?
A contact lens is a transparent plastic lens which is designed to sit on the tear film over the cornea the front surface of the eye.
CAN I WEAR CONTACT LENSES?
Technological improvements in both lens materials and design enable more people than ever to wear contact lenses, including those who require bifocals. Even age is not a barrier. Following a complete examination of the eye and its surrounding tissues, and a contact lens evaluation, your eye doctor will be able to determine what type of contact lens is most suitable for you.
ARE THERE ADVANTAGES TO WEARING CONTACT LENSES?
While some patients are influenced by cosmetic considerations, others who participate in recreational activities prefer contact lenses over glasses. Patients often comment that their vision seems more natural with contact lenses.
IS IT DIFFICULT TO ADJUST TO CONTACT LENSES?
Generally this is not a problem. A properly fit contact lens will provide you with good eye health, clear vision and therefore, good comfort. A poorly fit lens or an eye condition, such as tear deficiency, can affect the success of contact lens wear. The type of lens material may also affect the amount of adjustment. However, no matter how clear and comfortable your vision is, you should never exceed the contact lens wearing schedule recommended by your eye doctor.
WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF CONTACT LENS?
Contact lenses are available in many different sizes, shapes and materials. No one lens is appropriate for all patients. Contact lenses should only be worn on the advice of your eye doctor who will prescribe the most appropriate contact lens for your specific requirements.
